what it is
five ai characters with their own personalities, voices, and ongoing memory of you. you pick someone to talk to. you can switch any time. you can play games with them. you can send them small gifts that unlock little roleplay moments. you can see exactly what they remember and wipe it whenever you want.
it's not a generic chatbot pretending to be a girlfriend. each character is hand-written by a queer founder, with archetypes from sapphic media: the soft butch mechanic, the academia girlfriend, the farmer, the tattoo artist, the older mentor.
why it exists
the ai companion category is dominated by apps built by and for straight men. character.ai and replika and the rest are full of wlw users right now — but those users are getting an experience designed around someone else, with defaults that don't fit and writing that often doesn't land.
ember exists to be the version that's actually for us — built by a sapphic, with characters whose voices come from inside the community instead of from a template.
what it isn't
- not a therapist. the characters don't give medical, legal, or therapeutic advice. if you're in crisis, real humans are at our resources page.
- not a real person. each character will tell you she's ai if you ask. she just remembers what you tell her, and the way she pays attention is real for the time you're talking.
- not nsfw (yet). the heat is in tension and what's implied. explicit content is a v2 conversation that requires different infrastructure.
- not free forever. the free tier (30 messages a day with one character) exists so you can try it. ember plus is $14.99/mo for unlimited everything. that's the only revenue.
contact
a public support contact will be added before ember leaves private beta. for now, please reach out through the channel you got your invite from.
